Definition of 'Shabby Chic' -- Layers of softness characterized by the use of ribbon and lace, a time-worn look achieved by inking, pearls, glitter and other such embellishments.

The Shabby Tea Room #77!

Welcome sweet friends to The Shabby Tea Room's 77th challenge - 'Birthstones'!  Pattie is our host this week and she has chosen this fun photo for inspiration ...

... and asks that we create a card or project using the color of our birthstone!  My birthday was last week - August 18th - and my birthstone is Peridot!

The closest I could come in my stash of papers and goodies was Certainly Celery so I used some cardstock for the base of my card and a few sparkly baubles to make my card pop!!

Sometimes the Peridot gemstone can look a bit more yellow than green, so I used this piece of patterned paper from Webster's Pages with the sweet dress form and skirt in a pale yellow.  A bit of pink and black to compliment the design on my card, and some shimmery silver accents for a bit more bling!!

Our sponsor in the Tea Room this week is Pink Persimmon and I got to design with their 'Vintage Greetings' and 'You're a Jewel' stamp sets ... perfect for this challenge!!  Pink Persimmon is offering the Tea Room winner a $40 gift certificate to the shop this week - WOW!

Please take a little peek-sie over at the other Shabby Girls' blogs to see what their birthstones are and what they were inspired to create for this week's Tea Room challenge:

Charlene Cundy - Expresstions of Me!

Danielle Greenwood
- Au Clair de La Lune

Melissa Bove - Creating From the Heart

Pattie Goldman
- The Pampered Paper Patch

Sheri Holt
- My Sheri Cards

And don't forget, the deadline to apply for our current DESIGN TEAM CALL is this Sunday, September 4th at 11:59 pm.  The Shabby Girls look forward to seeing all of your beautiful creations!!

Miss Nelly for Kaisercraft!

Good morning all ... I hope everyone that was in the path of Hurricane Irene is safe and sound today!  We live about 2 hours northwest of where Irene made landfall near Morehead City, NC.  Here in Chapel Hill we had wind gusts up to 40+ MPH and a bit of rain, but weathered the storm with no major problems -- two tree branches down in our backyard and a lot of little debris scattered around that will need to be cleaned up today.
Our coast and outerbank barrier islands got hit really hard with damaging winds and storm surge flooding ... mother nature is very unkind sometimes.

I have family that lives in central NY and friends that live in RI and NH ... they are getting hit by the storm right now, so I'm still praying for everyone's safety.

I have a sweet card to share with you today that I designed for Kaisercraft using their gorgeous Miss Nelly collection!

I gave this pretty card to my BFF and her hubby who celebrated their wedding anniversary yesterday in San Francisco, CA ... what a romantic getaway for such a special couple!
Thanks for peeking ... have a wonderful stampy day!

August Papertrey Blog Hop!

Hi sweet bloggity friends and welcome!  As I'm sitting home nervously watching the Weather Channel and the coverage about Hurricane Irene, I thought I might pass the time by participating in the August Papertrey Blog Hop -- what fun!  And ... the latest box of goodies I ordered from the most recent release arrived on my doorstep this afternoon, so perfect timing too!

We live in Chapel Hill, NC which is about 20 minutes outside of Raleigh.  We are approximately 2 hours north west of Wilmington, NC where the hurricane is expected to make landfall sometime Friday evening/Saturday morning.  If the storm stays on it's current projected path and doesn't move any further west, we should only receive some wind gusts up to 30 MPH and 1 - 2" of rain in our area ... dodging the bullet so to speak.  Crossing my fingers ... and toes!!!

We relocated to NC in 1995 from NY and only after living here for four short months, experienced the wrath of Hurricane Fran when Raleigh took a direct hit as the storm moved over the mid-section of the state ... 90 - 100 MPH winds clocked at the RDU airport, horrific damage from trees down on power lines, we were without power for three days, but others were without power for up to three weeks in the more rural areas.  The kids missed two weeks of school -- my son was waiting to start kindergarten!  So ... we know all about hurricanes here in this neck of the woods and take them very serious!  I'm thankful we are 2 hours inland and wouldn't want to be on any of the outer banks or coastal areas during this storm - YIKES!

You'd never know by looking out the window that there is a Cat 3/4 hurricane just south of our coast line and beaches preparing to make landfall ... today was in the low 90's, gorgeous blue skies, sunny and lovely!  The 'calm before the storm'.  I'm praying for everyone to be safe!!

So, anywhooo ... I do have a sweet little card to share for Papertrey Ink's Blog Hop today ...

... I was smitten with this beautiful picture of a girlie enjoying a picnic on a beautiful sunny day!  I decided to replicate the images in the photo as best I could and created a damask picnic basket filled with teeny little paper books, a wine glass, a vintage table cloth, a bouquet of pink blossoms, a tiny tag announcing the party and, of course, a pretty little china place setting :)

This card was super fun to design and create!!!

And I sure hope the person I send it to has a wonderfully {sweet day} when she receives it!!
