NCSU - University Towers!

My son, Brandon, and I spent the day taking a campus tour of the NC State campus, Engineering school buildings, library and housing. Yes, it was FREEZING out ... started our tour around 11 am and it was only 34 degrees outside - burrrrrrr! I had to run to the campus store and buy myself a hat because my ears were frozen popsicles!
He was impressed when viewing the library ... they have a 'social floor' equipped with tons of computers, Nintendo Wii, Play Station and X-Box games for the students to use during down time from classes! My goodness, very different from when I went to college a hundred years ago!

Here are a few pictures of what his suite will look like ... he will reside at the University Towers on the State campus. It's a very nice facility, privately owned and newer than the existing dorms. It's a 9-level facility with gym, pool, activities, laundry, dinning hall, 3/4 day all you can eat menu, 24-hour security, maid service weekly, quiet rooms in lobby for study groups, pool tables and MORE! It's really nice ... I want to move in there with him!! He CRINGED when he heard me say that to our tour guide!
He will have a 2 bedroom suite. He plans to share his room with a friend from the high school where he is a senior right now. His friend got into NCS Engineering program as well, so it'll be good that they have many commonalities between the two of them - should make for good suite mates! The 2 bedrooms (2 guys in each bedroom) are connected by one bathroom which the 4 suite mates will share. Not a bad set up compared to the dorms which have 15 - 25 kids sharing one bathroom hall-style facility.

Swap Cards from demonstrators!

Made by Amy Ward!

Made by Sherri Barron!

Made by all of us as a make and take after the meeting was finished!

These cards are from Sunday's quarterly SU meeting held at my manager, Amy's, house! It was fun to hear great ideas from other demos in the field. I learned a lot and even made some cards myself!
I don't know why the computer or blog is turning this photos sideways. I'm taking the picture straight on and after I save it and try to post, it's being turned sideways. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to correct?

NC State Congratulations Cards from Friends!

This gorgeous 'shaker card' was made by Beth Cornwall to congratulate Brandon on his acceptance into NCS!! The intracate folds, double punches, embossing and advanced techniques are so impressive ... Beth is a relatively NEW stamper!!! I just love it!

SU Demo Swap!

We have a quarterly meeting at my manager's house this weekend and we decided to do a card swap between all the demos in attendance - FUN! Here's the card I came up with. I could just EAT that yummy Red and Vanilla ticking ribbon. I ONLY have 2 rolls of it left ... what will I do when it runs out??? I hope SU brings it back again sometime soon! I used a texturz background plate on the black piece - hard to see in the picture. It's swirly like the bird and branches.

Ink: Black, Riding Hood Red
Accessories: Riding Hood Red & Very Vanilla ticking stripe ribbon, small oval punch, crafters took kit, vanilla hodgepodge hardware, red stickles (for berries), dimensionals, horizontal slot punch, wide oval punch, backgrounds texturz plates, Big Shot.

Stamp Club Challenge!

This month, we decided to do a Stamp Club Challenge just for FUN! The project was to be a card we each created that was in an odd shape - not your standard square or rectangle card! I had so much fun creating my club challenge card ... spent way too much time on it, but I know you know what I mean when I say time just gets away from me when I'm creating in my stamp room!!! I had seen an idea similar to this way back in the summer when the Big Shot first launched - some ideas from the conference - and stored it away in the back of my brain (a very scary place most times!). I did not have the correct size scallop BS die to make the card as I rememberd, so I ad-libed and just used the smaller scallop circles that are on the BS pennant die. I layered the 'scoops of ice cream' and piled them high! I topped it off with a 'cherry' and ran outside to find the perfect stem in my yard! Of course, no wonderful ice cream cone birthday card would be complete without lots of 'sprinkles' on the ice cream, so I went crazy with the glitter - using 4 different colors!!!!
What do you think???

Fifth Avenue Floral!

This card was created by my stamping mentor, Amy Ward! Isn't it just beautiful? We made this last night at our monthly stamp club with Amy and what a GREAT time I had with all my special friends ... it was just what I needed after a long and difficult day! Amy created this card for us using the Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set, Urban Oasis DSP, Basic Grey, Kiwi Kiss, Baja Breeze, Whisper White and Sahara Sand color family. Love it!

More Special Cards from Friends!

This wonderful and intricately folded card was made by Beth Cornwall, who is a member of our neighborhood stamp club! I can't tell you all how impressed I am with this card ... Beth is a relatively NEW stamper and this card is very advanced. It would have taken me forever to figure out all those folds! The card is beautiful and from a very lovely lady! What a nice surprise it was to receive this special gift in my mailbox!

Cards From FRIENDS!

Susan Harris (pink) & Nicole Segnere (red) created these great cards!
Here are a few pics of some special cards from some special stamping friends!! Thanks to all ... I treasure all the wonderful hand stamped with love cards and projects I receive from everyone! I can't bear to part with ANY of them! They are proudly displayed in my stamp room or tucked away neatly in a photo album so I can enjoy them forever!

We received the BEST news in the world late Friday evening ... my son, Brandon, who is a senior at Northwood High this year, received his ACCEPTANCE letter into the NC STATE BIO-MEDICAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM!!! He'll be heading off to college this August and will be attending school right here at home, in Raleigh, NC! As parents, our prayers have been answered! This was Brandon's first choice as far as course selection went! The Engineering Program at NCS is very tough and hard to get into, so we couldn't be more proud of him right now! His plan is to study his first four years in the Bio-Med program and then continue on for his next 4 years studying to obtain his medical degree. He wants to be a doctor ... not sure what his speciality will be right now, but at least he has a clear plan! We all had the best weekend ever! GO PACK!!!
My younger son, Justin, has been a Wolfpack fan for all 13 years that we've lived in NC, so he is very envious of his older brother right now! Who knows ... maybe next year BOTH of my sons will be attending college on the NCS campus!!!
